The merged surcharges of BAF and SECA are currently EUR 167 per unit and will be valid until 31st December 2008.
BAF Adjustment as from 1st January 2009
BAF: We would like to inform you that BAF will be adjusted on a monthly basis from the beginning of year 2009. BAF charges will be announced at the middle of each month and fixed for the following calendar month – the calculation will be based on the average costs from the middle of one month to the middle of the next (i.e. actual March BAF will be announced mid February and based on average fuel cost mid January to mid February). As you are aware, we have seen vast changes to fuel prices during this year. Implementation of a monthly BAF will assist with keeping this surcharge more in line with actual costs.
BAF for January 2009: BAF has been calculated (for the last time) based on the average figures during quarter 4 2008. During this time, we have seen crude oil prices decrease constantly which has resulted in a current low level. We are therefore pleased to announce that BAF will be adjusted to €67 per unit which, plus the steady SECA/Marpol charge of €5 per unit, will result in a combined amount of €72 per unit applicable for January 2009. More detailed information on the development of the fuel prices can be found below.
BAF – Surcharge Calculation based on the MixTon – Scale. MixTon is based on the purchase of 2 different types of fuel, being: IFO 180 (Intermediate Fuel Oil) 83% and MGO (Marine Diesel Oil) 17%.
