About DFDS Tor Line Freight Manual Responsibility

Loss Prevention

Adequate stowing and securing of cargo is most important for safety at sea. Inadequate stowing and securing of cargo has resulted in many serious accidents, and has caused damage and loss of life not only at sea, but also during loading and discharging, and during land transportation.

DFDS Tor Line has chosen to implement some measures and recommendations to avoid problems and risks that may occur as a result of inadequate stowing and securing of cargo onboard our ships.

The Yellow Card

DFDS Tor Line is using the "Yellow Card" as a guideline concerning the securing of cargo within vehicles and Articles of Transport for carriage by roll on/roll off vessels, in our transport system.

The Yellow Card is established by the North Sea Operator's Claims Conference (NSOCC) and free copies are available on application.

Loading and securing cargo on load carriers

The manual "Loading and Securing Cargo on Load Carriers" is recommended in the Yellow Card as advice and instruction on securing cargo for individual and/or combined transports. The British Merchant Shipping Notice No. M1445 of April 1991 issued by the department of Transport, Marine Directorate, London, is also recommended in the Yellow Card.
